Having never participated in a PTP session or college prep class, I can't comment on their effectiveness - I'll leave that to those who know. As someone who never got any assistance at school with making post-graduation plans, I can say that I wish those opportunities had been available to me. I would like to add, however, that generally people get out of something what they put in. If students feel an activity is a waste of time, then it probably will be.
I think providing students with some guidance about their options after graduation (and how to prepare for that) is a good idea, but it should be implemented during the junior, not senior year. Those who are college bound will be submitting applications early in their senior year, and SATs, etc., will already be done. Some may need their senior year to take classes they'll need for college. Those who are not college bound will also need assistance in assessing their interests and learning about where and how they can develop the skills, training, etc., to be ready to enter the workforce.
Hopefully, program developers will hear the input from its "users" and continue to revise and develop the program to meet their needs.
Aloha!

I am sorry for anyone out there that have been hurting from what I said in my opinion but I must say that all the words written down on paper is all the different concerns from our locals that were born and raised here so it is not only my opinion that is hurting some of you. From what has been going on with this whole scenic byway misinformation has been bugging me. The way I feel is that whoever started this should hurry up and clarify what the heck is going because I have been seeing top many people hurting all because of misinformation, also I understand that it is not NKCRC's fault but the way people have been questioning this byway is making the NKCRC look like the bad people. I understand that my own mother had started NKCRC but that does not make me lose love that I have for Kohala. Im sorry if there was anything said in my opinion that may have hurt people but I feel like I was jumped on by just one simple OPINION that I wrote with concerns from other community members.

I understand where Daryl is coming from with his article that he wrote because he he was simply writing what went down at the meeting on October 23 at Kamehameha Park. If there is any miscommunication it is between the Byway committee and the people because even at the next follow up meeting October 24 at Kohala High School cafeteria, the committee showed up and still did not answer any of the questions that we had asked. That is what is making the community mad!!!!!

Thank you,

Hi Daryl,
While I repect your effort to be a reporter, you are parroting an organization whose members are secret, and who have mislead and divided the community. Did they take one question after their video presentation? No and with good reason, because they cannot defend their accusations. The Byways committe met with many community groups including the seniors and the lions club. Local members of the committe like Fred Kachola and Toni Whittington have fought for years and years to protect Kohala's coast and access. The secret members of the Malam group have done no such good deeds. Majority of supporters off island is another made up story. As to their reference to the Florida byways project that was dedesignated, I ask you to please look up on the internet, "dedesignated Florida Byway" That should give you enough informatio to see why it is always best to do you own research and not listen to a group who has done nothing to support Kohala. I am also one of the community that hears you when you say Keep Kohala Kohala, the theme of the CDP which encouraged the BYways project and is dedicated to protecting this special place. With all due respect, Sincerely,
